CFWF International Bursary Open for Applications

Willkommen in Deutschland! Join your fellow international farm writers at the 60th IFAJ Congress in Bonn, Germany, this summer July 13-17, 2016. Congress hosts are the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Association of German Agricultural Journalists (VDAJ).

Thanks to the continuing support of Monsanto Canada, we are pleased to offer the CFWF International Bursary. The bursary enables a valuable international experience for Canadian agriculture journalists and communicators. The prize of up to $2,500 will reimburse a member-in-good-standing for costs incurred to attend the 2016 International Federation of Agricultural Journalists congress.

Themed “Sustainable Agriculture – Made in Germany”, the event will highlight the versatility of German agriculture, including an efficient economy, the protection of nature and biodiversity, and the provision of quality and affordable food. The congress will kick off with greetings from Christian Schmidt, German Economic Minister and include sessions on sustainable farming. Participants will visit typical mountain regions in and around Bonn and Cologne, touring farms in the Münsterland, in Rhineland-Palatinate, and both sides of the Rhine River. Pre- and post-congress programs are also available. To learn more about IFAJ 2016, visit

For VDAJ, a founding member of the IFAJ, this year’s Congress holds special meaning: 60 years ago the association invited members to the First World Congress in Kassel, Germany.

It’s easy to apply:

  1. Please read the bursary information and fill out the application form below.
  2. Applications will be accepted until 5 pm, CST, February 19, 2016.

The international bursary program is administered by the CFWF Vice President. Applications will be judged by an eastern and a western CFWF senator plus one member-at-large. The decision of the committee is final.

The IFAJ registration will open in early February. The winner will be notified by Friday, February 26, which should give sufficient time to register for the Congress.
